I don’t want to get a divorce. What are my options?
December 15, 2023
New Jersey is a no-fault divorce state, which means your spouse can seek a divorce without having to provide reasons for doing so. You may seek an annulment if you have grounds to do so, in which case your marriage will be stricken and voided as if it never happened. However, if you do not have grounds for an annulment and were legally married and your spouse is seeking a divorce, there isn’t much you can do other than try to amicably settle your differences and reach some sort of compromise or middle ground that you are both happy with. Since many important legal considerations will come into play once this happens – such as child custody, alimony, and wealth distribution considerations – speak with our Lodi divorce lawyers so that we can draw up a sound strategy for you – one that will protect your rights and interests during and after the divorce.
